The Art of Handmade Paper

At INS Overseas, every sheet of paper, every journal, every bag begins with the same timeless process — a sequence of steps refined over nearly three decades and rooted in traditions that stretch back centuries. We use no machines where hands will do, no shortcuts where patience is required. Here is how we make each piece.

Raw Material Selection
We carefully source premium natural fibers from sustainable suppliers worldwide. Each material is chosen for its unique properties and environmental responsibility. We work exclusively with certified suppliers who practice responsible harvesting and ethical production standards.

Fiber Preparation & Pulping
Raw fibers undergo careful pulping to break them into individual strands while preserving their strength and integrity. We use water-based methods refined over centuries to achieve the perfect consistency for sheet formation — neither too thick nor too thin.

Beating & Refinement
Expert artisans beat the pulp to exact specifications, creating flexibility and proper bonding characteristics. This crucial step is carefully monitored to achieve the desired paper qualities — including strength, flexibility, and the fine tactile texture our papers are known for.

Sheet Formation
The prepared pulp is poured onto traditional wooden moulds and deckles, allowing water to drain naturally through the mesh. Each sheet is formed individually by hand, ensuring that every piece has a unique texture and an exceptional quality that no machine can replicate.

Pressing & Drying
Freshly formed sheets are carefully pressed to remove excess water, then dried naturally in the Rajasthan sun or in our climate-controlled drying rooms. This patient, unhurried process prevents shrinkage and warping, maintaining fiber integrity and producing flat, beautiful sheets.

Quality Control & Finishing
Every sheet is individually inspected for quality, consistency, and durability by our experienced quality team. Papers are trimmed, sorted by grade, and carefully prepared for packaging. Only sheets that meet our exacting standards make it into our collections.
